NewWave Communications Lady Racer Golf Classic Begins Monday

The NewWave Communications Lady Racer Classic Women's Golf Tournament begins Monday at the home of Murray State Golf, Miller Memorial GC. The Lady Racers welcome eight other teams that will also pursue the championship of this 36-hole event.

The tournament determines a team and individual champion on 18-holes of stroke play Monday and the same Tuesday. Each round begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.

The Racers welcome Butler, Central Arkansas, Chicago State, Indiana State, Rend Lake, and Ohio Valley Conference members Tennessee State, and Tennessee Tech.

The Lady Racers are coming off a strong sixth place finish in a good field of teams at Birmingham Southern last weekend where Murray State played better than five of the six Ohio Valley Conference teams in the field.

“We had a good tournament in Birmingham which will give us some confidence for our home event,” MSU Head Coach Velvet Milkman said. “I'm looking forward to a good showing from our players and we always look forward to playing at Miller Golf Course in front of our fans.”

NewWave Communications is the new title sponsor for the event.

“I'm very excited that NewWave is sponsoring our event,” Milkman added. “Their involvement with our tournament and Racer Athletics is greatly appreciated and we look forward to hosting a first class event.”

There is no admission charge and all fans of the Lady Racers and the game of golf are encouraged to watch the event.

“NewWave Communications is proud to sponsor the Lady Racer Classic and is delighted to continue to support Murray State University and their athletic programs," NewWave General Manager Jim Gleason said. "Murray State is important to the area we serve and we are glad to have the opportunity to be a part.”
