Christi Baron Leads MSU Golf At Lady Racer Classic

Murray State sits in fifth place after the first round of the NewWave Communications Lady Racer Golf Classic being played at the home of MSU Golf, Miller Memorial GC.

MSU fired a first round 334 and trailed first place Central Arkansas who shot a first round 316 on the Miller Memorial course that is playing to a par of 72 at 6,017 yards. Tennessee Tech is in second place with a score of 319, while Indiana State (328) and Butler (330) make up the top four.

Rend Lake CC (355) is in sixth place while Tennessee State (367) and Chicago State (406) are seventh and eighth place.

The Lady Racers were led by Christi Baron's 80; she fired a two-over 38 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine.

Bethany Yates turned in an 83, good for a spot in 15^th place, while Andrea Downer came home with an 85 and stands in 24^th place. Lauren Hughes is in 26^th place after an 86 and Megan McKinney's 87 gave her a spot in 28^th place.

Three Racer players are competing as individuals. Caroline Lagerborg is in 13^th place after an 82. Jena Lancaster turned in an 86 and sits in 26^th place, with Jessica Wilson in 36^th place after a 91.

The field of 47 student-athletes complete the tournament Tuesday in a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
