MSU's Yates Posts 8th Place Finish at NewWave Communications Lady Racer Classic

Murray State finished fifth in the NewWave Communications Lady Racer Classic Tuesday when they fired a final round 332 to finish with a total score of 666 at Miller Memorial GC in Murray, Ky.

The Lady Racers were two shots better than their Monday 334 in round-one, but couldn't catch a hot team from Central Arkansas who won the MSU event with scores of 316-322=638. Tennessee Tech (653) placed second, Butler (662) finished third, while Indiana State (664) took home fourth place.

The Lady Racers were led by Bethany Yates who turned in an eighth place finish with rounds of 83-81=164. Andrea Downer finished with an 80 to go along with a first round 85 to finish 12^th with a score of 165. Christi Baron's 80-86=166 earned her a 14th place finish. Lauren Hughes and Megan McKinney placed 25^th. Hughes fired rounds of 86-86=172 while McKinney also had a 172 after rounds of 87-85.

MSU players Caroline Lagerborg, Jena Lancaster and Jessica Wilson all played as individuals. Lagerborg started with an 82 and finished with an 86 for a total score of 168 and an 18^th place finish. Lancaster finished 29^th with rounds of 86-90=176 and Wilson finished 33^rd with scores of 91-89=180.

Rend Lake CC (711) was the sixth place finisher, while Tennessee State (750) finished seventh and Chicago State (826) finished eighth.

Murray State's next action will be in Tampa, Fla. at the Northern Illinois Snowbird Invitational. The Lady Racers will play on March 14 and 15. The event will be contested at Pebble Creek GC
