MSU's Mitchell Moore Named OVC Co-Golfer of the Week

Murray State sophomore Mitchell Moore was named the Co-Golfer of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference after posting his first collegiate victory at the TSU Intercollegiate Tuesday at Greystone GC in Dixon, Tenn.

Moore, from Christian County HS in Hopkinsville, Ky played outstanding golf over 54 holes, but his bogey-free six-under 66 in round two was the score that sent him to victory. Also his career low round, it was one of only three scores that low for the Racers in the last three seasons. Moore started the event with a two-under 70 and capped it with a three-over 75 for a total score of 211.

Moore was the only player under par in a field of 56 competitors.

“Mitchell's first tournament win will do a lot for his confidence going into the OVC,” MSU head coach Eddie Hunt said. “He's always had the ability to shoot low scores and this week he had three solid rounds. His 75 Sunday was played in windy conditions, so he could've shot even better.”

Moore has nine rounds of 70 or better out of 29 rounds in the 2006-07 season and his scoring average is 74.1.

He also had four other top-10 finishes this season including a fourth place showing at the MSU Invitational last September.

He shares the weekly OVC award with Austin Peay's Erik Barnes.

The Racers won the team championship as well at the TSU event and will go into the OVC Championships on a high note. The season-ending tournament runs April 22-24 at the Country Club of Paducah, Ky.
