MSU Cuts JSU Lead To Two At OVC Championship

The Lady Racers played excellent golf and came up with four scores in the 70's, led by senior Lauren Hughes who posted a 74. Her round looked great early when she played the front nine at only 1-over par 37 with birdies at the par-3 5th and the par-4 9th.
Freshman Andrea Downer fired a 4-over 76 that featured 12 pars and one birdie.
Senior Christi Baron scored three birdies on the day and came home with a 79, while Bethany Yates also carded a 79 and freshman Megan McKinney managed an 83.
Individually, Downer is in second place for OVC medalist with a total score of 12-over 149. She is seven shots behind the leader, Samford's Katelyn Stanier who had a 74 in round two and has a total of 5-over 149. Yates is tied for sixth and Baron is in a tie for 13th.
“Lauren played great, I'm really proud of her as a senior to contribute like that,” Milkman said. “They all played well and that's what we've had all spring, it seems like every time out there has been a different leader, and that's what you have to have, everyone playing well together.”
Weather conditions improved dramatically for today's second round. After battling fierce winds on Monday, the field of 40 competitors were greeted with warmer temperatures and nearly no wind.

The final round begins is Wednesday morning with all eight teams playing from the first tee with the first MSU-JSU-Samford pairing teeing off at 9:50 a.m.
