Murray State's varsity 4+ advanced to the finals as the school's rowing team participated in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships this weekend in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Racer varsity 4+ crew won their preliminary heat to earn a spot in the final round.
The varsity 4+ won Heat Five by 3.7 seconds over Stetson. MSU finished in a time of 7:57.3 while Stetson crossed the finish line in 8:01.0. Georgia placed third in the heat and Clemson was fifth.
In the semifinal round, Murray State placed second in the ABC Semifinal heat. Central Florida finished in a time of 7:51.2. The Racers came in with a time of 8:14.0. The University of Charleston was third, followed by Texas and Davidson.
MSU improved upon its time in the final round but the competition was tough. Murray state placed sixth with a time of 8:09.4. West Virginia won the event with a 7:37.9 time. Central Florida was second, followed by Cincinnati, Ohio State and Northwestern State.
Murray State's novice 8+ finished fourth in the B Final. The varsity 8+ also finished fourth in its B Final.
The Racers will participate in the Midwest Collegiate Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Saturday.
