Murray State's women's rowing team concluded its season at the 2007 Aramark South/Central Region Sprints on Saturday and Sunday, on Melton Hill Lake, in Oak Ridge, Tenn. MSU participated in three events during the NCAA regional: the open 4+, the novice 8+ and the varsity 8+. The Racer novice-eight crew placed fourth in the consolation final.
The novice-eight crew improved its time in each race. In the heat two of the opening round, Murray State finished fifth in a time of 8:07.43. The fifth place finish sent the crew to the consolation round. In the consolation semifinal MSU turned in a time of 8:01.29 for a third place finish in the second semifinal heat.
In the consolation final, the Racers turned in a time of 7:39.18 for a fourth place finish. MSU beat crews from Tennessee and Duke in the final round.
The novice-eight lineup included Wesly Newmaster at coxswain, Lyndsey at stroke, Anna Newmaster, Allison Miller, Hannah Neely, Kelly Boyer, Jessica Stamper, Mia Walters and Hannah Shaffer.
In the Open 4+ event, Murray State (8:32.44) placed fifth in the first round heat one race. The crew earned a third place finish in the consolation final with a time of 8:14.83. MSU beat North Carolina in both rounds.
The open-four crew included Toni Guthrie at coxswain, Kelly Anderson at stroke, Christa Bugg, Ashley Glennon and Kari Weisenfeld.
In the consolation final of the Varsity 8+ event, Murray State posted its best time of the season. The Racers finished fifth but their time of 7:05.66 was over three seconds faster than the previous season best.
The lineup for the MSU varsity-eight shell included Laura Graham at coxswain, Anna Brown at stroke, Karen Delaney, Jenna Kirkpatrick, Erin Sargent, Tracy Bogard, Stefanie Kozuszek, Katelyn Campbell and Colleen Rice.
Virginia claimed the 2007 Aramark Cup with a point total of 440. Ohio State (366) finished second overall but was the top finisher in the Central Region. Tennessee (352) placed third overall. Murray State finished 23rd with 15 points.
