'Breds Close Regular Season With Jacksonville State

The Murray State Thoroughbreds will play their final home games of the 2007 season this weekend, closing out the regular-season schedule with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Jacksonville State. The teams will play a double-header on Friday, beginning at 1 p.m., then play the final home game of the year on Saturday at 1 p.m. The 'Breds will honor their eight seniors prior to the Saturday game. All three games can be heard locally on WOFC (1130 AM, Murray) and worldwide through the live audio link at www.GoRacers.com. Live Stats will also be available through that Web site.
Murray State (17-31, 11-11 OVC) hopes to gain a berth into the six-team O'Reilly OVC Championship Tournament. Austin Peay, Southeast Missouri and Jacksonville State (29-24, 16-8 OVC) have all clinched tournament spots, but there is a tight race for the last three berths, with fourth-place Eastern Kentucky (11-10 OVC), sixth-place Samford (11-13 OVC), seventh-place Tennessee Tech (10-14 OVC), Eastern Illinois (9-14 OVC) and Morehead State (9-15 OVC) still in the hunt.
The final weekend of OVC competition has Eastern Illinois at Morehead State, Samford at Tennessee-Martin, Southeast Missouri State at Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky at Austin Peay.
The O'Reilly OVC Championship Tournament will be played May 23-26 at Brooks Stadium in Paducah, Ky. The first round on Wednesday has the No. 4 seed playing the No. 5 seed at 2:30 p.m., with the No. 3 seed taking on the No. 6 seed at 6:30 p.m.
