Former Racers Join Evansville Indoor Team

Two former Murray State football players have singed to play for the Evansville BlueCats of the United Indoor Football League, the team recently announced. Former Racers J.R. Webber and Tim Wright will make their debut on Saturday when the BlueCats face the Lexington (Ky.) Horesmen at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind.

Webber concluded his two-year Murray State career by starting every game at safety and leading the team with 106 tackles in 2006. His tackle total ranked fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference. Webber added two interceptions to go along with 8.5 tackles for a loss.

The Wichita, Kan., native registered double digit tackle performances five times during his senior season, including a career best 15 tackles against No. 6 Illinois State.

Webber will earn his criminal justice degree from MSU in December.

Wright also concluded his two-year Racer career in 2006. The Bay St. Louis, Miss., native averaged 39.2 yards per punt and 55.9 yards per kickoff his senior season. Wright's punt average ranked fifth in the OVC.

Wright was called on to punt 10 times against No. 12 Tennessee-Martin in the final game of his collegiate career. The senior averaged 45.9 yards per punt, saving one of his best performances for his final appearance.

Nine of Wright's 10 punts against the Skyhawks went for 42 or more yards and five were 45 yards or longer. He had punts of 62 and 54 yards.

He averaged 43.3 yards per punt against Samford on Oct. 14, 2006. The senior punted the ball six times for a total of 260 yards. Five of his six punts were 40 or more yards and three were 45 yards or longer. His second punt of the game went for 54 yards, from MSU's 19 yard line to the Samford 27-yard line.

Wright also had a 45-yard punt that was fair caught by Samford at its own 10-yard line.

The longest punt of his career, 69 yards, came against Missouri on Sept. 2, 2006.

Wright earned his undergraduate degree in December and entered Murray State's graduate school in January. He is seeking a master's in English.

The BlueCats are 2-5 overall and tied for fifth in the UIF East Division. Evansville is coming off a 41-28 loss to the Omaha Beef. The team has eight games remaining on its regular season schedule.
