Chasing The Title At The Kentucky State Am

Murray State Women's Golf Coach Velvet Milkman and 10 of her current and former players are playing this week at the Kentucky State Women's Amateur Championship.

Former Murray State star Jessica (Widman) Grace was the leader after the 18-hole stroke play portion of the 81^st championship being played for the first time on MSU's home Course. Grace, who was the first women's golfer at MSU to be inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame last winter, fired a 72 in day one, the best of all competitors in the field of 88 players.

Former Racer Lauren Hughes fired a 74, while current Racer Bethany Yates matched it.

Velvet Milkman fired a 77 while former MSU player Stephanie B. Watts (Baskey) fired a 78 and current Racer Megan McKinney had an 80.

Current MSU player Sarah Seay had an 83 and won a play-off to qualify for the championship flight.

Grace, Hughes, Yates, Milkman, Watts, Seay and McKinney all qualified for the championship bracket.

Current MSU player Ashley Yates had an 83 and lost in the play-off to fall back to the first flight, while former Racer Christi Baron came home with an 85 as did current Racer Kaysin Hutching with the same score. Former Racer Tina Marshall fired an 89.

The match play portion of the championship begins today.
