Murray State Football Preseason Practice #17
8/18/2007 5:00:00 AM | Football
The Murray State football team practiced today at 3:15 p.m., the 17th out of 22 practices scheduled, for a little under two hours on the practice field behind Stewart Stadium.
The offense worked on efficiency in the red zone today, and the quarterbacks worked on throwing over-the-middle routes and throwing to their receivers, who were making last-second cuts. The receivers worked on reading the cornerback and then adjusting their routes, and the running backs worked on picking up their blockers on pass plays. The offensive line also focused on picking up their assignments, while maintaining the proper footwork and getting in good position.
On defense, the defensive linemen worked on agility drills, and quickness out of the three-point stance. The linebackers worked on reading the quarterback's body language and reacting quickly, while the cornerbacks worked on dropping back into coverage and reading the wide receiver by focusing on his midsection.
At the conclusion of today's practice, head coach Matt Griffin commended the players' effort today, and the players rushed to get ready, as they sang the fight song to a large crowd at the Regional Special Events Center at 5:45 p.m.
The Racers return to practice Sunday at 3:35 p.m.
Murray State opens its 83rd season of college football on Aug. 30 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, where they will face the University of Louisville Cardinals. Kick-off time is set for 6:30 p.m.
