MSU Soccer Wins 5-1 Exhibition Over Bethel

The Murray State Soccer team played in what was the first competition of the 2007-08 school year for MSU Athletics today at Cutchin Field when they defeated
The day was made all the more special after a ground breaking ceremony for a new Racer Women's Soccer team, MSU Men's and Women's Tennis locker room complex. The MSU team dedicated their first win to Rosemary and Harry L. Crisp II who are making the project become a reality with their gift to the university.
Due to very hot weather conditions, the match was contested in three 30-minute periods instead of the usual two 45-minute halves. A 10-minute break was taken after the first and second periods.
Junior Jane Dewitt started the scoring when she scored unassisted on a 35-yard shot from straight away for a 1-0 lead for the Racers.
The score stayed that way until the second period when the Racers hit the back of the net twice. Freshman Laken Dirkes scored on a short kick that was assisted by Rebekah Clay. Junior Krista Muilkens scored to make it a 3-0 lead when she beat a
The Racers tacked on two more goals in the third period from senior Lacey Latimer and another from Muilkens for the 5-1 final.
Three goal keepers each worked one period the Racers. Together three freshmen; Tara Isbell, Tessa Williams and Katrina Goscha faced seven shots on goal and stopped all of them. The only
“I'd say the things we've been working on are starting to show up,” said MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman. “We still have a lot of things to work on but physically we're in a good place right now and if our mental game keeps coming along, we'll be alright.”
With the Racers still more than a week away from their opener, Acreman is happy with the progress she's seeing.
“It's very important that we stay confident as we get closer to the season opener,” Acreman said. “Our seniors are providing great leadership right now and our team is excited to play.”
Sunday the Racers will play a team Blue-Gold scrimmage starting at 2 p.m. at Cutchin Field, before traveling to
