How does the ream prepare during a short week?
It was good to play at home, that part of it was nice. It's a short home stay, we're back on the road in a short week and the degree of difficulty has increased because you don't have as much time. That's not an excuse, it will not affect our preparation and shouldn't affect our play at all.”
What are your thoughts on the Racers' 48-13 win over Lambuth?
“We were sloppy in the first half, we had some penalties and a couple of them were the result of guys' hustling. We can live with those penalties, but there are some others that we have to eliminate. One of the things that I am most pleased with was how we dealt with the momentum swings. It's going to go for you and against you in every game and it is imperative that when it's going against you, you hang in there as a team and we did that.”
“The last point I made to them (at half time) was the next 30 minutes was going to dictate the type season we're going to have. It was truly a fork in the road, they could disband and point fingers or they could come together as a team and they did come together and that was certainly encouraging. That mindset is going to be the next eight games.”
How much did it mean to get the first win of the season Saturday?
“With all we do in fall camp you want to get a win out of the gate. These kids put in so much work for the few opportunities they get to play, so naturally getting a win is good especially for the young group we have. The adversity was good for us, we needed it.”
What do you think about
“I've never seen that before. I've been a part of a seven interception game when I was at
Give us your thoughts on Tennessee Tech.
“Year in and year out they've always played good defense. They have to very good defensive tackles, remind me of the two kids we had at Martin last year. They have good safeties and linebackers who tackle well. Offensively, they have Sweeney back at quarterback and Shipp has made some unbelievable plays this season. He's had two kick returns for touchdowns and a 10 yard catch that he turned into a score. Coach Brown has them playing well; we've got to get ready.”
How big is the Racers'
“It's huge, because this is what you play for every year. This is what starts your march to post-season play, if there is going to be one. I really believe right now in the conference there is great parity. Two things are going to come into play: turnover margin and the health of your players. Every championship I've been a part of, those things have been factors.”
