Racer Soccer Wins Home Opener 4-0 Over Lipscomb

The Murray State women's soccer team scored a 4-0 victory Sunday over Lipscomb in their 2007 home opener at Cutchin Field.

Rebekah Clay scored twice in the first half as the Racers evened their season mark at 1-1.

“After playing Valparaiso on Friday we came up with a lot we had to work on in today's match,” MSU head coach Beth Acreman said. “We did improve on some things today, and defensively we didn't give up very many shots on goal.”

Indeed, the Racers managed to limit Lipscomb's shots on goal for the entire match to only three, while the Racers were able to operate in the offensive zone at will and ended the match with 26 shots, and 14 on goal.

Murray State started the scoring only seconds into the first half when Clay scored unassisted when she collected a loose ball about 10 yards out and hit the shot low inside the right post.

With 12:56 left in the half, Renata Figeuira set up Clay on a pass from just outside the box for a 2-0 MSU lead.

Krista Muilkens made it a 3-0 MSU lead with 32:15 left in the second half on a goal that Clay set up with a chip pass over two Lipscomb defenders.

The Racers fourth goal of the day came with 10:38 left on an unassisted goal by freshman Kalli McCoy.

Freshman Tara Isbell picked up the win with 90 minutes in goal with three saves.

The Racers next match is Sunday, Sept. 9 at Cutchin Field against Bowling Green. Game time is set for noon.
