Murray State baseball head coach Rob McDonald will speak at two coaches' clinics this month. A nationally recognized baseball clinician, McDonald has been a featured speaker at the 2006 American Baseball Coaches Association National Convention and the Texas High School Baseball Coaches State Convention.
McDonald will speak at the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association Clinic this Saturday, Jan. 19, in Louisville. He will also speak at the Midwest Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 26, in Chillicothe, Ill.
"This is a nice opportunity for our program to get out there in some different areas," McDonald said. "This will help get the Murray State name out there to different coaches. It was a nice gesture for them to invite me to come speak.
"The Louisville presentation will deal with catching: bunts, tags, force plays -- that sort of thing. The one in Chillicothe is about infield play: ground balls and first base play."
McDonald was a catcher in his playing days at Murray State. He also published "Catching Skills and Drills," an instructional video called "the best ever done on the subject" by Collegiate Baseball.
Murray State opens its baseball season on Feb. 23 at home with a double-header against Bradley at MSU's Reagan Field.
