Racers Win Eight-Team UTM Invitational

The Murray State rifle team won the UT Martin Invitational, held Jan. 23-27 at Marti,n Tenn. The Racers' smallbore score gave MSU the edge it needed to stay ahead of defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Jacksonville State.
Murray State won the eight-team tournament by shooting a 2286 out of a possible 2400 in smallbore and a 2312 out of a possible 2400 in air rifle, for an aggregate (combined) score of 4598. Jacksonville State had a tournament-best 2331 in air rifle and a 2252 in smallbore for an aggregate of 4583. Memphis had a 2288 in air rifle and a 2228 in smallbore for an aggregate of 4516, while Rose-Hulman had a 2175 in air rifle and a 2150 in smallbore for an aggregate of 4325. UT Martin's Women's team had a 2226 in air rifle and a 2145 in smallbore for an aggregate of 4371, while UT Martin's Mixed team had a 2189 in air rifle and a 2019 in smallbore for an aggregate of 2019. Alabama-Birmingham had a 1931 in air rifle, while Mercer had an 1841 in air rifle.
MSU's Kevin Witbrodt led all shooters with an aggregate of 1162 out of a possible 1200, shooting a tournament-best 581 out of a possible 600 in smallbore and a fourth-best 581 out of a possible 600 in air rifle. Dan Belluzzo was second in smallbore with a 576 and had a 575 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1151, third-best in the tournament. Cameron Hicks tied for fourth with an aggregate of 1148, shooting a fifth-best 580 in air rifle and a 568 in smallbore.
Kasey Meyer had a 576 in air rifle, while Harley Jette had a 561 in smallbore.
Other Murray State shooters included Erica Meece, who had a 566 in air rifle and a 559 in smallbore; and Jette, who had a 562 in air rifle.
