The Murray State Women's Soccer team notched a 4-0 win Friday at home against
The Racers now have a program record six straight games in which they are unbeaten.
MSU can tie the program record of five straight wins if they can win Sunday at Alabama A&M.
The Racers saw four different players put their names in the scoring column in moving their overall record to 8-4-1.
MSU's goal outburst began in the 60th minute and it got control of a match that was scoreless for a long while.
“I think we played 90 quality minutes,” Noted MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman, whose team peppered JSU with 36 shots on the day. “The shots were just not falling in the first half and I challenged the team to put away the scoring chances they were getting and I was very happy with the way they responded in the second half.”
Indeed, the ball would not fall in the first half when MSU had no less than 13 good scoring chances.
Their fortunes changed in the second half, starting with Katie Wilson's fourth goal of 2008 in the 60th minute on an assist from Audrey Wilson.
MSU scored again in the 67th minute when Kalli McCoy controlled a loose ball 10 yards in front of the JSU goal and blasted it in for her fourth of the season.
The Racers made it a 3-0 game in the 71st minute when former high school teammates Kalli McCoy and Laken Dirkes made a connection deep in JSU territory. Dirkes scored her first goal of the season off McCoy's high center pass from mid-field.
MSU added another goal in the 74th minute from Rebecca Shultz when she scored off a corner kick.
The Racer defense played another solid match in recording the fifth shut out of the season for goalkeeper Tara Isbell.
MSU limited JSU to 12 shots and Isbell made five saves in recording her ninth career shut out.
“Our defense is improving every game and I was happy with our possession,” Acreman added. “We'll go back to practice and keep working on it for the rest of the conference schedule.”
