After helping lead Murray State to a dominating victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday, senior linebacker Nathan Williams was named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Sunday. This is the second time Williams was honored this season after earning OVC and national honors on Sept. 14.
Williams (Murray, Ky.) continues to establish himself as one of the premier middle linebackers in college football as he recorded 19 tackles, nine solo, and a sack against the Golden Eagles. He was part of a Racer defense that intercepted three passes and held TTU to just 62 yards rushing.
Double-digit tackle performances are nothing to Williams as he reached double digits in five of the seven games this season. Earlier this season, Williams recorded 23 tackles against Illinois State and earns two of the top four single-game tackle performances in the FCS this season.
On the season, Williams has 105 total tackles and leads the FCS by averaging 15 tackles a game. He is the only player in any level of college football to have more than 100 tackles. Williams also has eight tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
