Tara Isbell Named OVC Goalkeeper Of The Week

Tara Isbell of Murray State Soccer is the Ohio Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week.

The award is the second time the Mayfield, Ky. native has won the OVC honor this season.

Isbell earned the league honor by completing two shutouts last week in a 4-0 win over Jacksonville State and a 0-0 tie with Alabama A&M. Last Friday, she made five saves in the JSU game, and Sunday made another 11 saves (four off the school record) to extend MSU's school record unbeaten streak to seven games. In all, Isbell played all 200 minutes, faced 31 shots, and made 16 saves.

Isbell lowered her overall goals against average in league play to an OVC best 0.25 per game, while her 0.96 overall average is fourth in the conference.

The pair of shutouts gives Isbell six in the 2008 season and 10 in her MSU career. The MSU career record is 15, and the season mark is 10. Each record was set in the first year of the Racer program in 2000 by Karen Fitzharris.

Isbell's honor marks the sixth time in nine weeks that MSU Soccer has landed a student-athlete on the OVC Player of the Week list. The league has weekly awards for offensive player, defensive player, and goalkeeper. Voting for the awards is conducted by the sports information directors from each league school.

The Racers are 4-0 and in first place in the OVC, and 8-4-2 overall.

MSU plays at Morehead State Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at Eastern Kentucky at noon.
