Gold Uses Two In The Sixth - Wins Navy-Gold Series Opener

The Gold Team got three hits and a pair of RBI from Jason Laws and three more hits from Elliot Frey as the scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 4-3 victory over Navy in the first game of the Navy-Gold World Series Friday afternoon at Reagan Field.
Laws, a junior college transfer from San Diego, Calif., finished the day by going 3-for-3 and driving in a pair of runs. Senior Tyler Owen collected a pair of hits, drove in a pair of runs and scored two more.
The Navy Team was led offensively by Daniel Hill's 3-for-4 effort. Junior Taylor Thieke went 1-for-2 with a two-run double.
Gold starter Chris Craycraft allowed one unearned run on three hits and four strikeouts over four innings. Tyler Hall picked up the victory in relief as he gave up two unearned runs on three hits over three innings.
The Navy also got strong pitching from starter Daniel Calhoun who allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and five strikeouts over four innings. Brad Rowland took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits over two innings.
The two teams will play the second game of the series tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at Reagan Field.
