Baseball Opens 73rd Season At Home With Bradley
2/22/2008 6:00:00 AM | Baseball
The Murray State Thoroughbreds begin their 73rd season of baseball this weekend with a three-game series against Bradley at MSU's Reagan Field. The series begins with a double-header on Saturday at noon.
Both teams are starting on unsure footing, as they return a combined five position starters. However, the pitching staffs of both teams return a lot of experience. The series is the first for both teams this season.
Murray State hopes to improve on its sixth-place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference, and will rely on the experience of its pitching staff -- which returns Mike Perconte, Bryan Baldini, Daniel Calhoun, Jake Donze, Marc Harmon, Drew Leeper, Matt McGaha, Brad Rowland, Anthony Stacy, and redshirt Seth McFarlin -- and will test the mettle of its returning players and 14 newcomers. Only 3B Tyler Owen and DH Andrew Cella return from last season's starting lineup.
Following this series, the 'Breds begin a five-game road swing, beginnnig at Memphis (Feb. 27), then going to a three-game stint at Nicholls State (Feb. 29-March 2) before culminating at Belmont (March 5).
