Yates Leads MSU To 2nd Place In Birmingham Event

The Murray State Women's Golf team finished second at the Ann Rhoads Invitational Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala. at Timberline Golf Club.

The Racers had a one-shot lead going into the final round after shooting a team score of 317 on Monday. However, in windy and rainy conditions, the Racers came home with a 327, while Samford shot a 317. The Racers 644 team total was nine shots off the Bulldogs' pace.

Tennessee Tech and Birmingham Southern (the host of the event) finished in a third place tie at 648, while Berry College finished tied for fifth with Evansville at 649.

Bethany Yates had the Racers' best individual finish with scores of 80-79=159 for 11^th place, teammate Alexandria Hinteregger finished 12th after scores of 79-81=160. Caroline Lagerborg finished 13th after firing rounds of 79-82=161. Andrea Downer (81-85=166) and Megan McKinney (79-87=166) each finished in 34th place.

The Racers had four players in the field of 84 as Individuals.

Joyce Trus finished 34^th along with Downer and McKinney with rounds of 84-82=166. Kaysin Hutching had scores of 83-88=171 good for a 48^th place finish, while Ashley Yates finished 52^nd with scores of 84-88=172 and Sara Seay finished 78th with scores of 90-99=189.

The BSU tournament was the kick-off to the 2008 spring season for the Racers and was played at Timberline Golf Club. The course played 5,851 yards and to a par of 71.

The Racers next event is the NewWave Communications Racer Classic at Miller Memorial Golf Course, the home of MSU Golf. The tournament begins Monday and finishes on Tuesday.
