Moore Paces MSU To Second Place Finish In Alabama

The Murray State Racers men's golf squad posted an impressive second place finish at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate at Silver Springs Golf Club in Gadsden, Ala.

The Racers' finish marked the seventh time in 10 fall/spring events that they have finished third or better.

The Racers carded rounds of 300-286-303=889 to finish three shots behind winner and host Jacksonville State who had scores of 287-294-305=886. MSU's 286 in round two was the lowest of the event.

Southern Mississippi placed third with scores of 301-303-295=899, while Presbyterian (900), Columbus State (905), Jacksonville State B-team (919), Armstrong Atlantic (920), UT-Martin (921), High Point (921), and Stetson (923) rounded out the top-10.

In the medalist race, Mitchell Moore was MSU's best finisher with a fourth place showing after scores of 76-72-74=222, he was six shots behind JSU's Gonzalo Berlin who won the event with scores of 71-74-71=216.

MSU's Nick Newcomb placed ninth with scores of 76-74-74=224 along with teammate Cameron Carrico who had rounds of 77-68-79=224. Carrico's four-under 68 in round two was the lowest of anyone in the field of 62 players.

Murray State's other finishers were, Jared Wolfe in 18^th place with scores of 79-72-76=227, while Jerry Price placed 28^th with rounds of 71-79=80=230.

MSU's Chris Griffin played as an individual and placed 49^th with scores of 79-85-75=239.

The Racers next tournament is the Branson Creek Invitational in Branson, Mo. Mar. 30 and Apr. 1.
