MSU Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season

Coming off of a very successful fourth place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships the Racers will be competing in there first outdoor meet of the year.

“I've been having some great practices lately, but I'm ready to go out and race,” Crawford said. ”I'm just ready for the outdoor season to start.”
In outdoor, the Racers will be able to take advantage of different events that are offered at meets only in the outdoor season such as the 3000 meter steeple chase, the javelin throw, the 400 m hurdles, and the hammer throw. Not to mention the sprint relays like the 4 by 100 meter.
Freshman Katelyn Jones, from Rockport Ind., who placed third in the mile and the 3000 meter at conference, will be running the 3000 meter steeple chase for the first time and if successful plans to competing in the event at the outdoor OVC championships.

Also in the throws, Dominique Robinson and Shameka Dial are both looking forward to competing in the shot put and the hammer throws. Dial and Robinson were both strong competitors for the Racers throughout the indoor season.
Robinson placed second at indoor conference in the shot put with a toss of 13.78 meters (45-02.50), while Dial finished in fourth place with a toss of 13.48 meters (44-02.75).
“I'm very excited and pleased with how this team is progressing to the outdoor season,” MSU Head Coach Dereck Chavis said. “Our newcomers, as well as veterans, stepped up at the conference meet and I'm confident they'll continue to do so throughout the outdoor season.”
