The final round of the 2008 NewWave Communications Racer Classic was cancelled Tuesday after too much rain fell over night on the Racers home course, Miller Memorial GC.

The Racers total in the first round of the scheduled 36-hole event was good enough for their first victory in the 2007-08 season. Fellow Ohio Valley Conference members Eastern Kentucky (328) and Tennessee Tech (330) finished second and third place.

MSU's Megan McKinney took medalist honors after a first round 76.

MSU's Joyce Trus (playing as an individual) tied for second place with Tech's Diana Carson, each shot 78.

MSU's Andrea Downer finished in fourth place after a 79. Caroline Lagerborg's 81 was good for a spot in sixth, while Bethany Yates finished 10^th after an 83. Alexandra Hinteregger shot an 84 and finished 13^th in the field of 46 competitors.

Other MSU players in the field as individuals included, Kaysin Hutching with a 21^st place finish with an 87, and Ashley Yates was 24^th with an 88. MSU's Sara Seay had a 90 and finished 29^th.

Other collegiate teams in the field were Dayton (352) in fourth place, South Carolina State (354) in fifth place. The field was rounded out by Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (357), and Wisconsin-Green Bay (390).

The Racer women's squad will tee it up again March 17-18 at the Samford Women's Intercollegiate in Oneonta, Ala. The event will be played at Limestone Springs Golf Club.
