The project was coordinated by Rebecca Ruebke, a senior cheerleader who is currently doing her student teaching at the elementary school. Rebecca asked Rosanne Radke, CHAMPS/Life Skills coordinator, about the possibility of getting 30 student-athletes to come to the school for some recess time so the kids and student-athletes could all play together and have some reading together time afterwards.
“The kids are already asking when the Racers can come back,” Rebecca said.
Lorrie Booth, Ashley Neff and Jill Starkey are the first grade teachers whose classes enjoyed the visit by the student-athletes.
The project coincided with Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America week.
