Perconte Named OVC Pitcher of The Week

Murray State senior right hander Mike Perconte was named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 21, the league office announced Monday. Perconte is the first ?Breds player to be honored by the conference this season.
Perconte (Lisle, Ill.) was honored after tossing a complete-game shutout in the series opener against Eastern Kentucky. He allowed eight hits and struck out seven, while needing only 118 pitches. After running into a bases-loaded one-out situation in the first inning, Perconte got a strikeout and a groundout to get out of trouble. He cruised from that point, allowing only two other base runners to get into scoring position.
The honor is the second in the career for Perconte who was honored on April 30, 2007 after tossing a complete-game two-hit shutout against Tennessee Tech.
Perconte improved his record to 2-4 this season in eight starts. In his MSU career, Perconte is 7-12 in 36 apperanes, 21 starts, including nine complete games.
The ?Breds return to the diamond on April 22 as they travel to Oxford, Miss. to take on Ole Miss. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
