The Racers have eight newcomers set to join the squad in time for the fall 2008 season.
"It is always nice to see your hard work pay off,” MSU head coach Beth Acreman said. “As a staff, we have worked hard to find players with the right match both academically and athletically to take our program to the next level.”
Soccer Buzz also named MSU as one of the “hot movers” for the 2008 season.
Following the Racers on the top recruiting class list was Austin Peay in second, with Eastern Kentucky, Southeast Missouri, and
Acreman's third season with the Racer program comes after a break-through 2007 season when the team won a program-best 11 matches and tied the school mark for most OVC wins with six.
“We owe a lot to our existing players who sell our program with their success in both the classroom and on the field.” Acreman said. “I can't wait to see everyone come together in August. Our returning players are determined to improve on last season, and I know they will all help lead our new freshman group to new heights."
Acreman's ?08 class includes some highly decorated players including National Team, All-American, All-Region, All-State First team and ODP representatives. The class includes: Cara Bohrman (Benton, Ky.), Nicole Evans (Rugby, England), Jordi Ferrell (Sikeston, Mo.), Jenna Fioranelli (Collierville, Tenn.), Sophie Hargreaves (Leeds, England), Rachel Longley (Middlesbrough, England), Danielle McMurray (Houston, Tenn.), Rachel Wright (Normal, Ill.)
Acreman might announce more additions to her no. one recruiting class in the next couple of weeks.
The Racers begin their fall season with a Blue & Gold Scrimmage on Aug. 9 at Cutchin Field. After an exhibition match at Mercer on Aug. 16, MSU opens the regular season at home against
