Nick Newcomb of the Murray State Men's Golf squad had a good showing at the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Aurora, Colo. Â Â
Newcomb, who will be a junior on the MSU squad in the fall, finished 43rd in the stroke play portion after carding rounds of 70-75=145.Â
The 36 holes of stroke play decided seeding for the match play portion.
He faced off with Kyle Leach of Louisville, Ky. in the first round of match play and ended on the wrong side of a 3&2 decision. Newcomb fell behind by one hole on the par-5 sixth hole when he made par and Leach made birdie and was never able to grab the lead.
The Racers fall season begins Sep. 7-9 when they travel to Farmville, Va. to participate in the Manor Resort Intercollegiate Tournament.
