Nelson and Lane Named to Preseason All-OVC Team

Junior tight end DeAngelo Nelson and junior defensive end Austen Lane were named to the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Team announced by the league office on Tuesday. The team was voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Nelson (Memphis, Tenn.) was an automatic selection to the team after garnering first-team all-OVC accolades following the 2007 season. He finished the season with 34 catches for 451 yards and three touchdowns. He ranked second on the team in yards and third in receptions, while leading all OVC tight ends in catches, yards and touchdowns.
Lane (Iola, Wisc.) was voted to the defensive line after finishing last season with 48 tackles (28 solo), 8.5 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks. He was second on the team in sacks and tackles-for-loss, and sixth in total tackles. Lane's best game of the season came in the finale as he recorded 12 tackles (10 solo) and two sacks.
The Racers open the 2008 season on Aug. 28 when they play host to Lambuth. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.
