Racer Soccer Wins 5-1 Over Mississippi Valley

The Murray State Women's Soccer squad enjoyed a break out 5-1 win Friday afternoon at Cutchin Field when they jumped on
MSU is 1-2 while MVSU is 0-2.
The Racers offense was provided by Sophie Hargreaves and Kalli McCoy who each scored a pair of goals, while Nicole Evans added a goal.
“We had a good effort today and it was nice to get some shots to the back of the net,” MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman said. “I continue to be very pleased with our effort.”
The Racers were relentless in the 90 minutes of the match in attacking the MVSU goal. The Racers ended the day with an impressive 28 shots, 16 of which were on goal.
MSU scored the first goal of the game in the 19th minute when freshman Sophie Hargreaves headed in Rebekah Clay pass.
Only a little more than a minute later the game was a 2-0 MSU lead when Hargreaves chipped in a rebound off a shot by Jenna Fioranelli.
The MSU blitz continued in the 22nd minute when Kalli McCoy made a great individual play one-on-one to make it a 3-0 Racer lead.
The Racer lead was 4-0 when Nicole Evans made a shoulder-high kick from the top of the box.
MVSU scored in the 48th minute to make it a 4-1 contest.
The Racers final goal came from McCoy off a rebound from a shot by Rachel Wright in the 62nd minute.
Acreman turned her thoughts to their Sunday match with IUPUI.
“Hopefully we've made some progress and we can build on this and take it into Sunday,” Acreman said. “We want to stay focused and confident.

Goalkeeper Tara Isbell got the win while facing only five shots, she made one save.
The Racers continue their six-game season-opening home stand Sunday when they host IUPUI at Cutchin Field in a 1 p.m. match.
