Williams Named OVC Defensive Player of the Week

Murray State senior linebacker Nathan Williams put together one of the best single-game tackling performances in school history against Illinois State and for his efforts was named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday.
Williams (Murray, Ky.) bested his own career-high for tackles when he posted a college football best (all divisions) by matching his jersey number with 23 tackles against ISU. He also added a sack for a seven-yard loss and also recovered a fumble. He was consistent throughout the game as he recorded eight tackles in the first quarter, seven in the third and six more in the fourth. It was the second double-digit tackle performance this season and the 10th of his career.
On the season, Williams has 49 total tackles (23 solo), 1.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. His 16.33 tackles a game rank him first in the nation in the FCS. He also ranks first in the nation in total tackles and second in solo tackles.
For his career, Williams has 266 tackles (155 solo), 10.5 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, five fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
