MSU Baseball Participates In ALS Walk

The event was the ALS Association's national signature fundraiser in which thousands of people participate at over 150 different sites around the nation.
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Swinnen, a native of
MSU Head Baseball Coach Rob McDonald took the MSU team to the walk to show support for Swinnen.
“Terry has shown a tremendous fighting spirit,” McDonald said. “As a team we felt it was important to attend the walk and be there to support Terry and his family.”

As the players participated in the walk, they carried a sign that read “MSU walks for Terry Swinnen.”

The walk around Rent One ballpark (the home of the Southern Illinois Miners) ended inside the stadium at home plate where every group was able to visit with Swinnen.
Soon after, everyone cleared the field and the Breds were able to get in a practice, which Swinnen was able to watch.

The average life expectancy of someone with Lou Gehrig's disease ranges from two to five years.
Terry Swinnen was diagnosed with the disease at age 28 and has lived with it for more than twenty years.
His family was present on this day and plays a big role in his survival.
