Racer Soccer Faces Big Road Trip To Begin OVC Play

The Murray State Women's Soccer team hits the road this weekend to begin play in the Ohio Valley Conference with games at Southeast Missouri State and Eastern Illinois.

The Racers' last match was a 2-2 tie last Friday with Marshall. Katie Wilson scored her first goal of the season, and Sophie Hargreaves made a penalty kick in the second half to get the tie for the Racers.

The Racers have a Friday date at Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau, Mo. against SEMO at 7 p.m., with Sunday's match at Charleston, Ill. starting at 1 p.m.

WEEKEND NOTES

MSU and SEMO will meet for the 11^th time in their series that began in 2000. The Red Hawks hold a 6-4 edge. The Racers have lost three straight to SEMO after beating them in the OVC Tournament at Murray in 2004.

The Racers travel to Charleston, Ill. Sunday for a 1 p.m. match with Eastern Illinois. EIU leads the all-time series 6-1-3. MSU defeated the Panthers at home last season in the regular season, but were upset in overtime in the first round of the conference tournament at home.

The Racers are 2-5-1 in OVC openers.

Veronika Pribyslavska, a freshman defender from Prague, Czech Republic was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts against Marshall.

The match was only the fifth tie in the Beth Acreman era at MSU, and the first in 30 games since tying UT Martin 0-0 Oct. 21, 2006.

Katie Wilson's goal was her first of 2008. The MSU sophomore now has six in her collegiate career.

Wilson is also the ninth Racer to score this season in nine games.
