The Murray State Women's Golf team kicked off their 2008-09 campaign Friday with 18 holes at the Chris Banister Gamecock Classic at the Silver Lakes GC in
The Racers fired a team score of 308 in round one and trail first place
Host Jacksonville State (310) was in sixth place, with Eastern Kentucky (314), Florida Gulf Coast (315), Northeastern State (321), and Austin Peay (322) rounding out the field of 10 squads.
Megan McKinney's 76 led the way for the Racers in the opening round and was good for a spot in 16th place in a field of 63 competitors. She finished her round with a birdie and an eagle.
Joyce Trus played her last four holes one-under and Alex Hinteregger made back-to-back birdies coming home, both had 77's and are in 20th place. Morgan Cross (24th place) carded a 78 and Andrea Downer (27th place) had a 79.
Rachel Diuguid is playing the event as an individual and had an 83 and stands in 41st place.
The Silver Lakes GC played to a distance of 5,998 yards and par of 72.
