The Murray State Racers host the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Regional Special Events Center. MSU is coming off a 58-46 home win over Eastern Illinois Thursday that evened their Ohio Valley Conference record at 4-4 and overall mark at 9-9. The win marked the third time this season that the Racers have held an opponent to 50 or fewer points...MSU has won all three. The EIU win also marked a change in the starting five for MSU when senior Tyler Holloway and junior Tony Easley made their second and first starts of the season. Holloway responded with a team-high 15 points, his first time to lead the team in scoring this season, while Easley was only two rebounds from a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. In OVC games, Isacc Miles leads the Racers with 13.0 points per game, while Holloway adds 9.1 and Danero Thomas scores 9.0.
Against EIU, the Racers again showed their ability to play tenacious defense in holding the Panthers to 29 percent shooting (16-of-55) from the field and 23 percent (3-of-13) from three-point range. MSU has led the OVC the last two seasons in field goal percentage defense and enters this contest second in the league in overall games holding opponents to 42.2 percent, while ranking third in league games at 42.4 percent. The 29 percent for EIU was a season-low for all MSU opponents. MSU has held opponents to below 40 percent six times this season and have won five of them.
The Racers enter the game an amazing 100 games above .500 in the RSEC with a record of 124-24 (.837) and are 19-3 in the last two seasons. Those losses came to Eastern Kentucky and Indiana State (last season) and Jan. 10 against Austin Peay.
