The Murray State golf team fired an amazing low round of 270 (18-under par) Monday in the second round of the UTM Skyhawk Classic at Paris Landing State Resort Park in Paris, Tenn.
The Racers are in second place after rounds of 289-270=559, five shots behind leader Central Arkansas 279-275=554.
The final round begins Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.
Jared Wolfe was MSU's top scorer with a spot in second place after rounds of 69-66=135, while Nick Newcomb was in fourth place after scores of 73-66=139. Chris Griffin carded scores of 74-68=143 for a spot in 11th place, while Cameron Carrico was in 36th place after scores of 74-70=144. William Hunt had scores of 73-75=148 and was in 36th place in the field of 89 competitors.
MSU's second team was in fifth place after scores of 289-290=579.
Patrick Newcomb had scores of 70-74=144 for a spot in 13th, while Hunter Ford was in 17th place with scores of 71-74=145. Tyler Brown had a spot in 22nd place along with teammate Dustin Gosser. Brown had scores of 76-70=146, while Gosser carded scores of 72-74=146. James Stevenson was in 57th place after scores of 80-72=152.
Tennessee Tech was in third at 575, while John A. Logan (575), Murray State Gold (579), Belmont (584), Union (TN) (586). UT Martin (587), Tennessee State (587) and Evansville (593) rounded out the top-10 teams.
