Soccer Battles to Scoreless Tie Against Colonels

The Murray State Women's soccer team earned one point today as they battled to a hard fought 0-0 tie against Eastern Kentucky at Cutchin Field this afternoon. MSU improved to 5-7-2 overall and 3-2-1 in OVC play.
After 45 minutes of soccer MSU and EKU were still deadlocked at 0-0 as neither team had any true scoring chances in the first half. MSU's best chance came in the 26th minute off of a corner kick. Maja Nordahl gatherd in the corner and let go a shot just over the crossbar. The Racers tallied seven shots in the half, but only two were on goal. Tara Isbell tallied four saves in the half for the Racers as EKU was able to manage five shots in the half, with four being on goal.
MSU came out in the second half and was able to get a couple early scoring chances as Rachel Wright came in one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the 51st minute of play. Wright let go a shot but was stopped by the keeper. Two minutes later Wright had her second chance of the half but was stopped again then put the rebound off the post to keep the score tied at 0-0. The Colonels best chance came in the 73rd minute as Tara Isbell made a diving save to deflect the shot over the top of the goal. The two teams remained tied at 0-0 as they headed into overtime.
The Racers outshot EKU 11-3 in the second half and held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Each team was able to manage just one shot in the first overtime period and headed to a second overtime. EKU fired off three shots in the second overtime but wasn't able to slip anything past Isbell. The Racers weren't able to manufacture any offense as the match ended in a 0-0 tie.
Isbell was credited with the shutout as she tallied eight saves and didn't allow a goal. Maja Nordahl had a game-high five shots, while Rachel Wright tallied four.
MSU contiuned to dominate in corner kicks as they held a 7-2 advantage.
The Racers will return to action Friday, Oct. 23 as the travel to Clarksville, Tenn. to take on Austin Peay at 7 p.m.
