After going 3-3 on field goals and putting 4-of-6 punts inside Tennessee State's 20 yard line sophomore Kienan Cullen (Louisville, Ky.) has been named Pepsi Student-Athlete of the Week.
This is Cullen's second honor for his performance this past Saturday against the Tigers. He was named Ohio Valley Conference Specialist of the Week on Sunday.
Cullen accounted for all nine Racer
points as he booted three field goals in a game for the second time in
his young career. He capped off the Racers opening drive by connecting
on a 36 yarder.
When he wasn't putting points on the
board, Cullen was busy flipping the field as he punted six times and
pinned TSU inside their 20-yard line on four of those punts. His first
punt of the game traveled only 27 yards, but more importantly was
downed at the two-yard line.
In the fourth quarter, Cullen
helped extend a Racer drive as he got off a punt under a heavy rush
before being hit by a defender and drawing a personal-foul penalty to
extend the drive. After the drive stalled, Cullen flipped the field by
getting off a booming 51-yard punt that backed the Tigers back to their
own 17 with 3:05 remaining in the game.
The Racers used the
momentum to intercept a pass on the next play and Cullen sealed the
game with his 40 yarder with 2:29 left on the game clock.
Cullen
finished the game by averaging 34.3 yards on his six punts, but more
importantly four downed inside the 20. He also averaged 59.5 yards on
four kickoffs.
On the season, Cullen is 8-for-9 on field goals
with a long of 46 yards. He is also averaging 39.9 yards on 39 punts,
including nine punts over 50 yards and 10 punts downed inside the
20-yard line.
