Racers head to Austin Peay Friday, Host Evansville Sunday

The Murray State Women's soccer team will hit the road one last time as they head to Clarksville, Tenn. for their final road game of the season Friday, Oct. 23. The Racers will take on Austin Peay at Morgan Brothers Field at 7 p.m. MSU will return home and play host to Evansville, Sunday at 1 p.m. at Cutchin Field. Senior Nicole Evans will be honored on Sunday for Senior Day.
Sophie Hargreaves continues to lead the Racers offense as she has five goals, four assists, 14 points and 37 shots. Danielle McMurray and Evans each have five goals and 11 points. Kalli McCoy and Laken Dirkes each have three goals, as the Racers have tallied 26 goals this year, which is second most in the OVC.
Katie Walsh and Tara Isbell have split time in net with Walsh earning the majority of the time and is 5-4-1 in goal. She has tallied 35 saves and a 1.90 goals against average. Isbell has tallied the lone shutout for the Racers this season.
Racers Rewind
The Racers dropped a hard fought match against Morehead State last Friday, 2-1, before battling to a scoreless draw against Eastern Kentucky, Sunday.
Evans scored the lone goal for the Racers in Friday's match in the 37th minute to even the score, 1-1. Morehead answered back just before halftime in the 45th minute to score the eventual game-winning goal.
Walsh would take the loss as she allowed two goals while recording four saves.
Sunday's match ended in a scoreless draw after each team was unable to capitalize on their scoring chances. The Racers best chance came early in the second half as Rachel Wright put a shot off the right post in the 53rd minute.
Isbell would be credited with the tie as she tallied eight saves and posted the Racers first shutout of the season.
Scouting the Competition
Austin Peay enters Friday's match 1-10-4 overall and eighth in the OVC with a 0-3-2 mark. Despite their record, the Govs have played in hard fought matches during conference play. APSU has given up a conference-high 28 goals this season, but have only allowed five goals during OVC match-ups. The Govs have had problems finding the back of the net though, as their lone goal in OVC play came in a 2-1 loss to Morehead State.
APSU is led offensively by Monique Wong who has two goals and one assist. Kellie Cannon is the only other Gov with multiple goals this season as she has two. Danielle Roos leads the team and is seventh in the OVC with 28 shots.
Carley Newman has started 10 of 14 matches for the Govs this season as she is 1-8-2 in net. She is allowing 1.75 goals per game, but places second in the OVC with 70 saves.
The Racers lead the all-time series with the Govs, 6-2, having won the last four meetings dating back to the 2005 OVC tournament.
Evansville enters the weekend at 5-9 overall and will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to take on Purdue before heading to Cutchin Field, Sunday.
The Purple Aces enter the weekend riding a three-match losing streak, while being outscored 9-2 during that time.
Kristen Davis and Kaitlin Oldfield lead the Purple Aces with 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Davis has tallied a team-high five goals and 37 shots. Despite starting just eight matches, Amanda Malone leads the team with three assists.
Theresa Bagby and Chaviel Harrison have split time in net as Bagby has compiled the better record at 4-5. She is allowing 2.00 goals per game and has tallied 65 in net.
Evansville leads the all-time series with MSU, winning each of the five matches they have played.
