Four Murray State soccer players were selected to All-Ohio Valley Conference teams today. The awards were voted upon by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Senior midfielder Nicole Evans, sophmore midfielder Sophie Hargreaves and sophomore defender Veronika Pribyslavaska were named to the All-OVC First Team, while redshirt freshman Danielle McMurray was named to the All-OVC Second Team, All-Newcomer Team, and OVC Freshman of the Year for their efforts.
Evans has been an offensive force for the Racers as she is tied for the team-high with five goals. She leads the team and is second in the OVC in points during conference matches with eight. The Rugby, England native is tied for second on the team with three assists and has started and played in 17 of the Racers 18 matches.
Hargreaves has played a very versatile role for the Racers this season. Despite spending time back on defense, she has still managed to lead the team with 14 points. The Leeds, England native has tallied a team-high four assists and is tied for the team lead with five goals. She has also posted a team-high 40 shots so far this season. Early in the season against Alabama A&M she tied a school record when she handed out three assists in the Racers 9-1 victory.
This is the second time Hargreaves has garnered All-OVC honors as she was named to the All-OVC Second Team just a season ago.
Pribyslavska has played a major role all year in the back as she helped the Racers string together a school record four-straight shutouts late in the season. MSU only gave up seven goals during OVC matches and held the opposition to 78 shots, largely due to the play of Pribyslavska. The Prague, Czech Republic native tallied one goal and one assist during conference play. Her lone goal of the season came at Austin Peay in the 83rd minute of play to help lead the Racers to a 1-0 victroy.
McMurray is the second Racer to earn Freshman of the Year honors and sixth Racer to earn OVC-Newcomer Team honors in the programs history. The Germantown, Tenn., native has tallied five goals and three assists. She also leads the team with 18 shots on goal and is second with 30 total shots. She has tallied two goals and one assist in OVC matches, to go along with 18 shots, 11 of which were on goal.
McMurray and the Racers return to the pitch Thursday at Jayne Stadium in Morehead, Ky., as they take on No. six seed, Eastern Kentucky in the first round of the OVC Tournament. Game time is set for 7 p.m. central time.
