Lane Finishes Sixth in Buchanan Voting

Murray State All-America defensive end Austen Lane finished sixth in the voting for the 2009 Buck Buchanan Award, announced at the at The Sports Network's Football Championship Subdivision Awards Banquet, held at the Chattanooga Convention Center on the eve of the NCAA Division I Football Championship title game.
James Madison's Arthur Moats was the recipient of the award.
The Buchanan Award, named for the legendary Grambling State and Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle, is presented annually to the nation's top defensive player in FCS.
Lane received eight first-place votes for a total of 120 points. He is the third Racer to be named a finalist in the 15 year history of the award. Cornerback William Hampton finished as the runner-up in 1995 and linebacker Nathan Williams finished fifth in 2008.
Lane will now turn his attention to the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game in El Paso, Texas on Feb. 6, and the NFL Draft on April 22-24. He is rated as the 51st best prospect on the big board and the fifth-best defensive end in the draft.
