?Breds Welcome Jackrabbits for 2009 Opening Weekend

The Murray State baseball team will open the 2009 season Friday as the ?Breds play host to South Dakota State in a three-game series at Reagan Field. The season's first pitch is set for 2 p.m. Friday, followed by a 12 p.m. start Saturday and Sunday. Live stats for all three games can be found on www.GoRacers.com.
The ?Breds are beginning their 85th season of baseball and own an overall record of 1,210-1,073-16.
The matchup with the Jackrabbits marks the second time the two teams will meet in Murray in the last three seasons. The two teams squared off early in the 2007 season with SDSU taking two out the three games.
In the opener, MSU will send junior right hander Chris Craycraft (5-4, 4.48 ERA) to the hill, while the Jackrabbits will counter with left-hander Caleb Thielbar (5-4, 5.94 ERA). In the second game, the ?Breds will send lefty Daniel Calhoun (5-3, 3.00 ERA) to the mound to face SDSU right-hander Layne Somsen (1st career appearance). The finale will pit MSU's Marc Harmon (0-2, 4.58 ERA) against SDSU's Jared Koch (3-4, 7.38 ERA).
The MSU lineup will look familiar on opening day as it returns six position starters from a season ago, led by preseason all-OVC selections in first baseman Wes Cunningham and third baseman Tyler Owen.
The ?Breds return to the diamond when they travel to take on Memphis on Feb. 24 at 3 p.m.
