Carrico-Wolfe Lead MSU To Victory In California Event

The Murray State men's golf team brought home the championship of the Morehead State Spring Kick Off Tuesday when they fired a final round 291 and made it stand for a seven-shot win over second place Austin Peay at the River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard, Calif.
The Racers finished with scores of 287-284-291=862 that added up to a wire-to-wire win in their spring season opener.
APSU fired rounds of 293-286-290=869 for second place, while Eastern Kentucky finished third with scores of 292-294-296=882, and
MSU finished one-two in the individual medalist competition with Cameron Carrico nipping teammate Jared Wolfe for the title by one shot.
Carrico carded scores of 71-68-73=212, while Wolfe had 69-73-71=213.
MSU's Mitchell Moore took fourth place with rounds of 71-71-74=217, while Nick Newcomb was 10th after scores of 75-72-73=220. Hunter Ford placed 22nd with scores of 79-74-78=231.
Chris Griffin played as an individual and finished in a tie for fourth with
MSU now has 17 wins in Eddie Hunt's nine seasons as head coach.
“I'm really proud of the way our team came out of the gates for the spring opener,” Hunt said. “Our goal is to tee it up each day and compete and I thought we did that this week, this will give us a lot of confidence going forward.”
Carrico, last season's Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and a native of
Wolfe, a junior from
Wolfe and Carrico combined for four of MSU's five under-par scores in the event.
MSU returns to action March 9-10 at the Samford Intercollegiate played at Limestone Springs Golf Club in
