Murray State swept the golfer of the week awards from the Ohio Valley Conference when Joyce Trus and Cameron Carrico were honored.
Each claimed tournament medalist wins in the season opener and Carrico nearly won back- to-back events.
Carrico, a sophomore from Owensboro, Ky., carded rounds of 70-66-73 at the Samford Intercollegiate, eventually losing in a playoff to finish second overall. Carrico had previously won his only other spring event, the Morehead State Kickoff in Oxnard, Calif. His scoring average of 72.3 features 11 rounds of par or better in the 2008-09 season.
The Men's team won for a second time in two events this spring.
Trus, a junior from Mexico City, Mexico, had rounds of 78-76 to claim individual medalist honors at the NewWave Communications Classic, also helping her team to a championship. Trus was four strokes ahead of her nearest competitor. Her scoring average of 76.5 in the 2008-09 season has nine rounds of 75 or better.
The MSU teams will head south for their next challenges.
Thursday the women's team begins play at the El Diablo Spring Invitational in Ocala, Fla.
The men's squad plays in Atlanta, Ga. March 29-30 at the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational at Chateau Elan Resort.
