Downer Posts 14th Place Showing - Racer Golf 7th in Florida

The Murray State Women's Golf team improved three spots in the final round to finish seventh at the El Diablo Intercollegiate in Ocala, Fla.

Friday's 312 was their best round of the 54-hole tournament.

The Racers had 313 and 328 in the first two rounds to finish at 953, in a tie with Florida Gulf Coast.

MSU's top finisher was Andrea Downer who finished 14^th for her best showing of the 2008-09 season with scores of 80-81-75=236. Joyce Trus and Megan McKinney tied for 27^th place. Trus had rounds of 79-80-82=241, while McKinney got her 241 with scores of 77-83-81. Morgan Cross was 31^st with rounds of 77-84-81=242, while Bethany Yates placed 41^st after scores of 83-88-75=246 in the field of 87 competitors.

Alexandra Hinteregger played the tournament as an individual and placed 63^rd after scores of 86-83-85=254.

Ball State was the champion with scores of 304-301-309=914, with James Madison (927) and Florida Atlantic tying for second place. Indianapolis (937), St. John's (950), and USC Upstate rounded out the top-6.

The Racers finished ahead of ninth place Southern Illinois (957), 10^th place Austin Peay (959), and 11^th place Eastern Kentucky (971). Radford (973) finished 12^th, with UAB (1002), SIU Edwardsville (1008), and IUPUI (1027) making up the rest of the 15-team field.

The event was played at the El Diablo Resort on a course measuring 5,902 yards and playing to a par 72.

MSU's next action is Monday in Oneonta, Ala. at the Samford Intercollegiate at Limestone Springs Golf Club.
