Racer Golf Seven Shots Off Samford Intercollegiate Lead

The Murray State women's golf team battled cold and rainy conditions Monday to earn a spot in third place at the Samford Intercollegiate in Oneonta, Ala at Limestone GC.

The Racers share third place with South Alabama, after each carded a 312 in the first round.

The field of 15 teams only played 18 holes because of bad weather meaning the event will be reduced to 36 holes and finished Tuesday morning.

Freshman Morgan Cross led the Racers in round one with a 77 on the par-72 Limestone course that is playing 5,880 yards. She stands in ninth place in the field of 79 players.

Joyce Trus had a spot in 17^th place along with teammate Megan McKinney, each recorded a 78.

Bethany Yates had a 79 for a spot in 19^th place, while Andrea Downer was in 54^th place after an 84.

MSU's Alexandra Hinteregger is playing the tournament as an individual fired an 81 for a spot in 34^th place.

Host Samford was the first round leader at 305, while Jacksonville State stood in second place at 307. After the Racers and South Alabama at 312, Kennesaw State (313) was in fifth place tied with Birmingham Southern. Troy (314) was in seventh place, with Tennessee Tech (319), Eastern Illinois (320), Austin Peay (324), and Belmont (324) making up the top-11 squads. UAB (333) was in 12^th place with Evansville (335), Western Kentucky (338), and Montevallo (346) rounding out the field.

The final round will begin Tuesday at 9 a.m.
