MSU Shares Lead At NewWave Racer Classic

The Murray State Women's Golf team finished the first round of the NewWave Communications Racer Classic tied for the lead at Miller Memorial Golf Course in
The Racers were tied after the first 18 with fellow Ohio Valley Conference member Tennessee Tech each with a score of 328 on the par-72 Miller Memorial course playing to a length of 3,075-yards.
MSU's Joyce Trus was in second place with a 78, while teammate Andrea Downer turned in a 79 for a spot in fourth.
Bethany Yates carded an 85 and stood in 13th in the field of 48 competitors, while Megan McKinney, the defending champion of the event, was in 17th after an 86. Morgan Cross fired an 89 and was in 25th position.
MSU's (gold) second team was in sixth place in the field of nine teams with a 345.
Alex Hinteregger had an 80 for a spot in sixth place, while Ashley Yates fired an 84 and a spot in 10th. Kaysin Hutching's 89 earned a spot in 25th place, with MSU's Jilian Brake in 35th with a 92, and Sarah Seay in 41st place with a 96.
Austin Peay (329) was in third place, with Lipscomb (338), and SIU Edwardsville (341) making up the top-five. The MSU Gold team (345) was in sixth, with Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne (354), Cumberlands (372), and Missouri Baptist (405) rounding out the field.
The first round was played in very cold and windy conditions.
The final 18 holes of the event will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
