Calhoun Named OVC Tri-Pitcher of the Week

After tossing a complete-game four-hit shutout against Illinois State Friday, Murray State left hander Daniel Calhoun was named the Ohio Valley Conference Tri-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Calhoun shares the honor with Austin Peay's Ryne Harper and Adam Liberatore of Tennessee Tech.
Calhoun (Evansville, Ind.) was honored after he tossed his seventh complete-game of his career in a 1-0 victory over Illinois State. Calhoun retired 11-straight hitters, including setting the side down in order in third, fourth and fifth innings, on his way to striking out a season-high eight without walking a batter.
The junior ran into some trouble in the seventh as he gave up a pair of singles to start the frame. He got the next hitter on a force out at third before striking out the next two hitters to end the threat and the game.
On the season, the preseason all-OVC selection is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two starts. He has surrendered just one walk and struck out 14 in 13 innings.
The ?Breds are 4-2 on the season and will take on Freed-Hardeman Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Reagan Field.
