Cunningham Named MSU Pepsi Athlete of the Week

Junior first baseman Wes Cunningham was named the Murray State Pepsi Athlete of the Week for the week of March 23-29 after hitting over .700 in leading the ?Breds to a 4-1 record during the week.
Cunningham (Louisville, Ky.) finished the week by going 12-for-17 (.706) with a double, two triples, two home runs, seven RBIs and 10 runs scored. He hit safely in all five games and extended his hit streak to a career-best 18 games and extended his streak of reaching safely to 33 games. He also reached safely in 12-straight plate appearances on the week.
Cunningham began the week by tying a school record with a pair of triples in the victory over Mid-Continent. He would finish the doubleheader sweep over the Cougars by going 6-for-6 with a walk, hit by pitch, three RBIs and six runs scored.
He opened the weekend series with SIU Edwardsville going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. In the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday, Cunningham collected three hits, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 7-7 tie and give the ?Breds the 11-7 victory.
On the season, Cunningham is hitting .444 with six double, four triples, five home runs, 31 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He ranks in the top five in the Ohio Valley Conference in average, hits, triples, RBIs, runs scored, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. On the national level, Cunningham ranks 10th in triples, 18th in hits, 31st in total bases, 38th in average and 57th in slugging percentage.
